Justin Guy Pottery

Welcome to Justin Guy Pottery. Justin has a potter-teacher lifestyle and has been working in clay for nearly two decades. He came back to the area in 2006 to teach and build his studio located on what used to be the Landrum-Miles Pottery Plantation on the edge of Horse Creek.

After teaching for 6 years at USC-Aiken, in 2011 he became the Instructor for the Professional Pottery Program in Edgefield, SC. The 8,000 sg.ft. facility is dedicated to producing professional clay artists by giving bountiful room to explore the possibilities of clay and the background knowledge on how to run a successful business around selling your work.

When Justin is not teaching, he can be found in his studio making work.  Justin’s work is a multifaceted experience that reflects the many cultures and traditions that he has had the privilege to explore and learn from.  His formal education to clay was as an apprentice at the Old Edgefield Pottery under Master Potter  Steve Ferrel. It was here that most of his understanding of pottery developed with Edgefield Folk pottery becoming securely positioned in his roots. After aquiring a B.A. in Studio Ceramics,  he traveled throughout Europe, had a residence in Taiwan and traveled coast to coast in the United States to learn about ceramics from institutions and individual ceramicists alike.  The many miles traveled and the broad education that he received has convinced Justin to return to South Carolina and build a modern studio on land that was once owned by Landrum-Miles clay clan(If you are unfalmiliar with Abner Landrum or the Edgefield Pottery Tradition please see the Edgefield pottery links).
